- E-file manicure. Done dry with a rotating bit. Nothing is cut, so the risk of nicks is low and the skin around the nail hardens more slowly.
- Combined manicure. The bulk of the work is done with the e-file, the awkward corners by hand. This is the most common option in Tashkent salons today.
- Classic manicure. Done entirely by hand with cutting tools; the skin is softened first, then trimmed. The oldest method, still widely offered, with a higher chance of nicks.
- File-only manicure. Nothing but a file: length and shape are corrected, the skin is left alone. The gentlest option.
No method is inherently better than another. The difference is in speed, safety and how long the result holds.
E-file or combined: which to choose
The e-file method works dry — no soaking bowls, no softening. The layer under the nail plate does not swell, so gel polish sits flatter and lasts longer.
The combined method suits you better if there is a lot of overgrown skin, or if the skin around your nails tends to tear. The e-file takes off the bulk, the technician finishes the rest by hand. For most people this is the sensible default.

How long gel polish lasts
Done well, gel polish holds for two to three weeks. After that the nail has grown out and the line at the cuticle becomes visible — not because the coating failed.
What shortens it is mundane: housework without gloves, opening packaging with your nails, very hot water and frequent hand sanitiser. Tashkent's dry air adds to it — the skin around the nail dries out faster here, so a daily oil or cream genuinely helps.
If the coating chips within a week, the cause is almost always in the prep: the plate was not dried properly, or the edges were not sealed. That is a fair question to put to your technician.
How to tell the technician works safely
You do not need to be an expert. Several signs are visible in the first fifteen minutes.
- Tools come out of a sealed pouch in front of you. That is the single clearest indicator of proper sterilisation.
- The technician disinfects their hands and yours before starting.
- The workstation is wiped down after every guest and waste is binned where you can see it.
- Your skin is not damaged. Bleeding during a manicure is not normal.
- There is no sharp chemical smell in the room, which means extraction and ventilation are working.
