Lash and brow lamination: how it works, who it suits and how long it lasts

Lamination — often sold as a lash lift or brow lift — works with the hairs you already have. Nothing is glued on and nothing is added: the shape and direction change, not the length. What lash lamination is

Your own lashes are set over a silicone shield and held in that shape with a formula, curving them upward from the root. The length does not change, but the eye reads as more open, because hairs that previously pointed down now point up.

A tint is often added to the same appointment. That is especially useful on fair lashes: shape and contrast arrive together, and the need for mascara drops sharply.

One thing to be clear about: lamination does not lengthen lashes or add to their number. It repositions the hairs you have. If length and volume are what you are after, that is a different service.

What brow lamination does

On brows the job is different: laying the hairs in the direction you want and fixing them there. It works well on coarse brows that grow in several directions, and equally well on sparse ones — laid hairs close the gaps and the shape reads as fuller.

It is usually combined with shaping and tinting. After that you can stop combing brows into place with a daily gel: they hold on their own.

In a Tashkent summer that is a particular convenience. Heat and sweat smudge any pencil or gel, while lamination does not depend on makeup — the result survives washing your face.

Lamination versus extensions

In short: lamination is for a natural look, extensions are for a visible change. The two cannot be worn at the same time.

The appointment, step by step

1. Cleansing. Lashes or brows are cleared of makeup and oil residue.
2. Shaping. Lashes go onto the shield; brows are laid in the chosen direction.
3. Setting. The formula is applied and left for a measured time — this is the step that fixes the shape.
4. Tinting. If it is part of the plan, it happens here.
5. Conditioning. A nourishing product finishes the appointment.

Before a first appointment the technician assesses the hairs: length, density, how coarse they are. The timing of the formula follows from that, and it is not a fixed number — this is where experience counts. Left too long it dries the hair; taken off too early it does not hold the shape.

If you wear contact lenses, take them out beforehand. The skin around the eye should not be dry either, so skip strong exfoliants and waxing the day before.

The whole thing takes roughly an hour. Your eyes stay closed throughout and there is no pain — most people doze off.

How long the result lasts

Four to six weeks on average. The exact figure depends on how fast your hairs renew: an old lash sheds, a new one grows in its place, and that one is not laminated. The result therefore fades gradually rather than all at once.

Several things shorten it. Oil-based makeup and oil removers are the main culprits. So is sleeping face-down into the pillow, which mechanically straightens the hairs. A Tashkent summer adds chlorine from the pool, which strips the shape noticeably faster.

Repeating the treatment early is not advisable. The hairs need time to recover, and frequent lamination leaves them dry and brittle.

Aftercare

Keep lashes and brows dry for the first 24 hours: that is how long the formula needs to set fully. Skip the pool, sauna and steam on day one as well.

After that there are no special restrictions. Mascara is fine; just avoid oil-based removers, which fade the result faster. Not sleeping with your face pressed into the pillow helps too.

In Tashkent's dry air a conditioning oil on the hairs is worth the effort — once a day, applied clear of the root. It will not extend the treatment itself, but it keeps the hairs in better condition, and a technician working with healthy hairs gets a more even result next time.

Who it does not suit

If there is inflammation or irritation around the eye, the appointment is postponed — that needs resolving first, and it is a question for a doctor.

If lashes are very short and sparse, the result may not read: there is not enough hair to curl. A good technician will say so plainly rather than take the booking.

If you have had extensions recently, the synthetic lashes have to come off first. Lamination is not done over them.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are not an outright bar, but hormonal changes can mean the formula does not hold as expected. The technician should flag that in advance; the decision is yours.

If you have ever reacted to a similar formula, ask for a patch test first: a small amount behind the ear, then wait and watch. That is routine caution, not fuss.
